In Greek mythology, Hades fell in love with a water nymph named Minthe, but his wife Persephone found out and sought revenge. Some sources say that Hades turned Minthe into a small plant to protect her, and as Persephone stomped on her in anger, the minty smell calmed her anger and she relented. The health benefits and use of Peppermint oil have been documented back to 1,000 BC and have been found in several Egyptian pyramids.
